Green Bay

Today I had the wonderful pleasure of meeting up with Nancy. Nancy and I taught together in Hurst, Texas about 10 years ago. Green Bay is her home town and many a canasta night she would share stories of her childhood as a member of a sailing family. She also shared her Door County sailing adventures and even brought her Canasta friends cherry pitters from the Door.

When she became aware of my adventure, she was quick to offer me suggestions for excursions. The list was a great launching off point and I loved every minute of it. She is also the sister of the generous couple who took me out on the water on my birthday. Finally, she is the generous provider of the older sailing pictures posted about my initiation into sailing. I am ashamed to say that until she gave me the bucket list by e-mail, I had entirely forgotten that Door County was her stomping grounds.

Today, I left Door County to start drawing my trip to a close. To my great pleasure, Nancy arrived in Green Bay on June 30th. Based on her suggestion, we made it a point to get together today. I got to meet another brother and her sister and brother-in-law. In addition, I was taken to Kroll's for an Evans family tradition. The 75 year old establishment sells hamburgers with a pat of butter on the hot patty. Imagining this dish is likely unappetizing, but it really was delicious. Like Paula Deen says, everything is better with butter. In fact, Nancy's family will have frozen patties shipped.

On the way to Kroll's, Bob took us by Lambeau Stadium for a brief tour. For a retirement job, Bob worked in the ProShop warehouse, so he knew about the product. On top of that, he had a great deal of knowledge about Packer history that was fascinating. I am sure he is not the only avid fan in the state. In addition, he shared a great many tidbits covering Wisconsin history. I was quite entertained.

Thank you Nancy and family.
